Update: Allegations that ANC councillor was on hit list

Dokolwane was instrumental in finding a peaceful and amicable solution to the recent taxi violence.

Ward 119 councillor Mbuyisele Dokolwane was  murdered in his yard when he returned home from an African National Congress branch meeting, according to the ANC’s Jodilee Matongo.

The regional spokesperson said there are allegations that there is a hit list and Dokolwane was on the top of the list.

“Our comrade was shot in his yard while getting out of his car.
“His daughter was at the gate when the shooting happened,” Matongo said.

He said there are some allegations about what led to the murder.

Dokolwane was instrumental in finding a peaceful and amicable solution to the recent taxi violence.

In a meeting held with various entities two weeks ago, he asked police what their plans are to curb the violence.
He also said he wants police to be more involved.

“There are allegations that our comrade was murdered because people didn’t want him to intervene in the taxi violence,” said Matongo.

Other allegations are that people didn’t want Dokolwane to run a second term as ward councillor.
“…but there was no tension in this branch even in meetings there was no indication of any tension,” Matongo said.

Matongo worked with Dokolwane during the construction of the library in Freedom Park last year.

Under Dokolwane’s leadership a clinic and state of the art school were built in Freedom Park.

“He was dedicated and committed in pushing services for the community.

“It will be difficult to fill his shoes,” said Matongo.

He is appealing to the community to come forward if they have any information on the murder of Dokolwane.

The councillor leaves behind a wife and two children.
