Makhura makes substitutions to team Gauteng

Mashatile makes a comeback to the legislature.

Former Gauteng premier Paul Mashatile will make a comeback to the provincial legislature as MEC for Human Settlement.

This comes after premier David Makhura announced plans to reshuffle his cabinet on Tuesday night.

This move will see Mashatile replace Jacob Mamabolo, who has been appointed MEC for Infrastructure Development.

Makhura said bringing Mashatile back will be of great help to the provincial government because of his experience.

“I am very pleased to have recruited a powerful player like him who has vast experience in government. We need him here to strengthen Team Gauteng,” said Makhura.

Nandi Mayathula-Khoza has been moved to the position of Social Development MEC. A position left vacant following the suspension of Molebatsi Bopape pending a forensic investigation in to allegations of misconduct, maladministration and corruption.

The allegations were levelled against Bopape when she was MEC for the Department of Sports, Arts, Culture and Recreation last year.

She was made to swap positions with the then Social Development MEC Faith Mazibuko.

“Molebatsi Bopape is no longer part of Team Gauteng and the investigation is currently underway,” said Makhura.

Mashatile is expected to resign from his position as Member of Parliament before moving back to the provincial legislature this week.

He once held the position of Minister of Arts and Culture and is currently Gauteng chairperson of the African National Congress (ANC).
