Taxi violence claims life of driver

The Eldorado Park Association says they tried to quell tension since last year.

A taxi driver was gunned down this morning in Freedom Park.

According to the Eldorado Park Taxi Association they have been ranking in Eldorado Park, Freedom Park and surrounding areas for many years.

“An association from Freedom Park started blocking our taxis from entering Freedom Park and removing our passengers from the taxis,” the representative said.

The two associations apparently met regularly with law enforcement and other parties to find a way forward.

The Eldorado Park Taxi Association advised the taxi association from Freedom Park to register their members with the Eldorado Park or Bara Taxi Association as the latter two associations are registered to operate in the areas.

In their most recent meeting, the taxi association refused the offer according to a representative from the Eldorado Park Taxi Association.

“We have experienced violence but not this extreme and it is since the association from Freedom Park came into existence,” the representative says.

The taxi driver died on the scene and the Eldorado Park Taxi Association believes the man was shot several times.

The police’s Lungelo Dlamini said no arrests have been made.
