Watch: Residents demonstrate against flat rate billing

Eskom Zola depot experiences turmoil as residents demand a response on billing systems.

Last week Thursday residents from the Zola 2 and 3 community gathered to host a march to Eskom in Zola.

The residents wanted to voice their dissatisfaction with the introduction of flat rate billing and want a different billing system to be introduced.

The march involved residents from Zola and going forward, residents from Zola, Emndeni, Jabulani, Zondi (Zojazam), Moletsane, Tladi, Naledi (Motlana) are invited to come together to speak in one voice regarding this issue.

“I’m an active member of SANCO and yet I don’t know who organised this march and I don’t know if this march is legal and if it is a protected march,” said Kaizer Khubeka.

“As Eskom, we are currently meeting to discuss how we can resolve this issue, more communication will take place as and when a solution is reached,” said Tumi Moloi, Soweto representative from Eskom.

“The planning of this march is what worries me so going forward I would like us to come together as a community and have a much stronger and united voice the next time we visit Eskom.

“I would like to invite all community representatives from both Motlana and Zojazam to meet and plan a way forward for next week Thursday,” said Khubeka.

The public meeting will be held next week Thursday at the Zola Sports Facility next to Esthebeni Primary school at 5pm.

For more information on the meeting, call Khubeka on 084 028 1748.
