Eskom warns of recruitment scam

Job seekers must be on the lookout for fraudsters.

Power utility Eskom has issued a public warning against an employment scam doing rounds.

It is believed that there is a group of people posing as representatives of an Eskom recruitment agency. The fraudsters solicit R1500 from job seekers, promising them employment at Eskom.

“Once payment is received by these “recruiters”, would be employees are then directed to report to the main security entrance gate or reception area at an Eskom building, only to find out there are no vacancies or jobs and the supposed agent has also disappeared,” said Eskom spokesperson Khulu Phasiwe.

The power utility has urged everyone to not engage with anyone claiming to be an Eskom recruitment agent, especially if they request payment in order to secure employment.

Eskom further reminds the public that if there are employment opportunities, the company advertises them on its website and that no payment is needed from a prospective employee.
