Hard work pays off for Musi High

While the national pass rate dropped, the Pimville based school shows improvement.

“Mitirho ya vulavula”, hard work speaks for itself.

This is how Sydwell Maluleke principal at Musi Comprehensive School commented on Wednesday morning after learning how well his school did in the past academic year.

Music High became the top achieving school in Pimville obtaining 82.5% in their matric pass rate.

This is a 9% increase from the 73% obtained in 2014.

Musi High is the only school in Pimville which obtained a pass rate of more than 80%.

Thabang Mathlakwane from Klipstruit became the top achieving pupil obtaining four Bs.

He excelled in Setswana, geography, life science and physical science.

“This percentage was obtained through teamwork, support from parents, department officials, and the SGB. The class of 2015 showed dedication and cooperation by attending morning and afternoon classes.

Even on weekends and during the holidays, they attended extra classes.” said Maluleke.

105 pupils set down for the matric exams in the 2015 academic year.

Top achiever Mathlakwane plans on studying towards a mechanical engineering degree at the University of Johannesburg this year.

“I’m happy but a bit disappointed because I couldn’t get the two distinctions I was hoping for,” said Mathlakwane.

He was hopping to get distinctions in geography and life sciences.
