GDE’s overall remarks on the NSC 2015 exams

Marking of matric papers commenced on November 30 and results to be issued on January 6.

Since the commencement of matric exams on October 26, pupils wrote their last National Senior Certificate examinations papers on November 27 marking the official culmination of 2015 exams in Gauteng.

Gauteng Department of Education’s spokesperson, Phumla Sekhonyane said the 2015 NSC examinations had the record highest number of 112 050 and 38 628 full time and part-time candidates respectively, totalling 150 678.

Sekhonyane said this total is an increase of 6972 compared to the 2014 enrolment of 143 706, registered for the NSC.

“This year, we have seen a drastic reduction in the number of irregularities and a more coordinated approach in the management and administration of the examination in the province, exam materials were successfully escorted to nodal points on time.

“The province was also administering the common examinations for the first time this year,” she said.

Sekhonyane said the common exam was implemented in Grade Nine, 10 and 11 to gauge if pupils are on the same level of understanding on their academics.

“The common examinations also went very well. Any technical issues that did not affect the credibility of the examinations were dealt with,” said Sekhonyane.

She said: “MEC Panyaza Lesufi has expressed his sincere gratitude to all officials who oversaw the NSC Examination process.

“Marking of the papers commenced on November 30, and the marking captured on December 1.

The Minister of Basic Education, Angie Motshekga will release the results on January 5, while the Gauteng Provincial Government will release the results on January 6.
