Park gym launched for residents fitness

Residents given chance to keep fit.

Jostling for different exercise machines by both adults and children was the order of the day when Nestle launched the outdoor gym at Phiri Park.

The official launch of the gym is part of Nestlé’s health and wellness commitment to residents in different locations.

The launch of the gym coincided with World Diabetes Day and forms part of a much larger health day initiative, where residents were given free blood sugar and cholesterol screenings as well as nutrition advice from registered dietitians.

Naazneen Khan, Nutrition, Health and Wellness manager at Nestlé SA says that it was their role to teach residents about healthy living.

“Our goal is to continue to provide educational programmes and facilities which assist the public in bettering their health, by providing them with the tools to make positive changes to their day-to-day lifestyles.”

One of the residents, Mpho Kekana who attended the event said that it was high time the park was revived to benefit residents.

“This is one of the oldest parks in our area and we are happy that it is now revived with gym equipment which we and our children can use for keeping fit and healthy.”

“Many South African’s are battling with serious health issues brought on by poor lifestyle choices. It is our hope that through these initiatives.

“We are able to assist in preventing these issues one community at a time. It is through constant education that we will make a difference in the lives of people, not only in the present but in the generations to come.” said Khan.
