Social development brings services to people

Residents learn more about social development.

The City of Johannesburg’s Department of Social Development hosted a Visible Social Services Delivery Day Expo event at the Bramfischerville Multipurpose Centre.

The social development units that were present on the day include Social Benefits, Children’s Services and Food Resilience.

Approximately 200 residents from Ward 44 and 49 participated in the event.

Social worker Leonard Mathende said government and Non-Government Organisations (NGOs) should work together to fight causes and effects of poverty.

Mathende said this is why the City hosted a multi-sectoral exhibition to commemorate the social development month and to highlight the importance of public and private partnerships in service delivery.

Other participating organisations included South Africa Social Security Agency (SASSA), Family and Marriage South Africa Westrand, Ithemba Drug and Alcohol Clinic Krugersdorp, Old mutual, National Youth Development Agency, Bramfischerville Local Drug Action Committee, South African National Council on Alcoholism & Drug Dependence (SANCA), Rotlhe Sonke Revival, Arise and Shine, Nqobile Home Based Care and People Opposing Women Abuse (POWA).

“Residents were helped on issues like addiction, food insecurity, social grants, domestic violence, child care and those with identity documents challenges were referred to Home Affairs,” said Mathende.
