‘Councillors must fall’

Meadowlands residents were up in arms this morning calling on the transparency of their local councillors.

Led by the Meadowlands Community Forum (MCF), residents marched to the councillors’ offices to handover a memorandum of grievances regarding infrastructure projects in the community.

The memorandum also addressed residents’ concerns regarding demarcation of wards and the social responsibility fund from development projects, Ndofaya Mall, Thutolore and Lily.

“Non-consultation with the people is a disease and if not remedied, will always create grounds for discontentment amongst the people. As a councillor your first priority should be us and you have for long now neglected us,” read the memorandum addressed to Ward 41 councilor Sphiwe Mbongo, who was not present to receive the document.

Councillor Norman Ngwedzeni signed and received the documents on behalf of absent councillors.

Recipients of the memorandum were given 30 days to respond.
