Soweto schools partake in spelling bee

Pupils improve their spelling skills.

Hard Workers SA, an organisation founded in June this year by Pitso Excellent Mofokeng and Bongani Given Ndlovu had its first spelling bee event this weekend.

Hard Workers SA, aims at helping pupils in the township with spelling and mathematics.

They had a spelling bee on Saturday at Meadowlands High School.

The purpose of the event was to expose pupils to spellings bees to help improve their spelling skills and academics.

The four schools that were present made it a success.

Tsogang Primary School was the only primary among Almont Technical High School, Protea Glen Secondary School and Letsibogo Girls High School.

Kamogelo Khosana won the maths competition and Refilwe Mahlangu won the English competition, both from Tsogang Primary School.

Harrison Chauke from Almont Technical High School came in first place in the maths competition followed by Tondani Monyai of Protea Glen Secondary School and Lee-ann Mashaba from Letsibogo Girls High School came in third place.

For English competition, Bontle Mdladlamba from Protea Glen Secondary School came in first place followed by Tshepiso Selamolela of Almont Technical High School and Zanele Kubheka of Letsibogo Girls High.

Teachers were happy with the initiative and said they cannot wait for next year because this will help their pupils improve in academics.
