Residents to march to councillors’ offices

Residents will embark on a march on Thursday, calling on councillors to be transparent.

Meadowlands residents are calling on local councillors to be transparent in their administration in an attempt to curb corruption and uplift the community.

Led by the Meadowlands Community Forum (MCF), residents will march to the councillors administration offices on November 12 to handover a memorandum of grievances to Calgro M3, MMC of Human Settlement, SAPS and councillors of wards 40,41 and 43.

Acting Chairperson of MCF Tshidi Madisakoane said the memorandum voices residents’ concern about service delivery, community development and safety.

“We’re marching for several issues, including community developments that happen in our communities but we’re not part of them. Our councillors don’t communicate and engage with us, we’re often left in the dark about big projects and developments.” said Madisakoane.

Madiakoane said that lack of transparency results in corruption and this challenges the creation of employment for residents and community upliftment.

The march to the offices at 47 Hekroodt Drive will begin at 11 am.
