Residents warned of hijackings

Residents are warned of hijackings in Meadowlands following a recent increase in reported cases.

Meadowlands residents are urged to be vigilant and cautious in Zones Nine and 10 following an increase of car-hijackings in the area.

Police spokesperson Sergeant Octavia Thebe said these areas have become a hotspot for hijackings over the past months.

“There has been an increase in hijackings in these two particular zones compared to other areas of Meadowlands. “Residents should take precaution measures at all time because there isn’t a particular trend in which these hijackings occur.” said Thebe.

This comes after a man was hijacked last week while parked outside his girlfriend’s home in Zone 10.

According to Thebe, the victim and his girlfriend were sitting in the car at night when a red VW golf with no registration number approached them and the driver pretending to be lost and asked for directions.

A man allegedly stepped out of the red car and went to the driver’s side before pointing a firearm at the victim and his girlfriend, demanding them to get out of the victim’s car.

“The car has been recovered following investigations but the suspects have not yet been arrested. Anyone with information should please come forward.” said Thebe.
