No disruptions reported at exam centres

About 151 000 pupils in Gauteng are writing exams this year.

According to the Department of Basic Education website, Public Examinations in South Africa have a 157 year history, having been written since 1858.

“The first public examination under a democratic dispensation was administered in October 1996.

“This year’s examination will be administered from October 26 until November 27, and the results will be released on 5 January 2016.” https://www.education.gov.za

Phumla Sekhonyane, Gauteng Department of Education spokesperson, said from the number of pupils writing their final examination in Gauteng 112 000 are fulltime and 39 000 part-time.

This means there’s approximately 151 000 pupils writing exams this year (2015).

Sekhonyane said Gauteng has the second biggest number of pupils writing exams after Kwazulu-Natal’s 200 000 and Northern Cape being the lowest with just 14 000.

“Exams are underway and we’ve not received any undesirable reports from all 900 exam centres.

“The only reports received were of administrative errors such as when invigilators gave a pupil wrong exam papers,” she said.

She said: “We’ve not experienced any disruptions in any of these centres; therefore the GDoE is delighted by the progress made so far.”

Individual learner results will be available from January 6, 2016.
