Water restrictions to hit Joburg

Rising temperatures and lack of rainfall main cause of water restriction.

Rand Water has recently started its ‘water restrictions’ policy.

Water-use restriction is a ban or other lesser restrictions put into effect that restricts the outdoor use of water supplies.

Often called a watering ban or hosepipe ban, it can affect irrigation of lawns and car washing. According to Rand Water media relations officer Justice Mohale a water crisis is looming.

“Persistent high temperatures in Rand Water’s area of supply continue to strain its bulk water supply system.

“The lack of rainfall in Gauteng is exacerbating the situation,” said Mohale.

Rand Water has also provided some tips to assist in saving water.

“The high water demand will cause localised problems in the City of Johannesburg, City of Tshwane and the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality.

“All consumers must use water responsibly and sparingly,” said Mohale.
