School encourages entrepreneurship

Teachers bring curriculum to life as pupils conduct business.

Ekuphumeleleni Primary School in Jabulani hosted their entrepreneurship day with more than 10 stalls being run by school pupils.

Parents pitched in to help pupils prepare and set up their stalls to sell their products to residents, fellow pupils and parents.

The event started with pupils rendering poems and teachers addressing pupils on the importance of entrepreneurship.

“The aim of this event is to teach children the nature of business.

“We have principals of business and entrepreneurship included in the curriculum so this event is aimed at bringing all those words and theory into life.

“We charge them a standard stall fee so the pupils themselves put together what they want to sell with the help of parents and the proceeds from their sales goes directly to them,” said Maria Mosumi, a teacher at the school.
