Brutal attack leaves teacher (25) dead

Attack on four people leaves two dead while one woman runs away and another raped.

A teacher from Westbury Secondary School died in a brutal attack this past Saturday in Rhodes Park, Kensington.

The teacher, Zukisa Kela, was strolling the park with his partner, his friend and his partner when suddenly they were attacked.

The attack was allegedly perpetrated by 12 men who tied him and his friend up and threw them into the lake.

Member of the Community Policing Forum from Cleveland, Alison Roberts said it saddens them to know that people can do such brutal things.

“The CPF of Cleveland SAPS, law enforcement and residents of Kensington are in shock at this brutal attack.

“We appeal to the public to come forward with any information that can lead to the arrest of these criminals so that they can face the full might of the law,” said Roberts.

Colleague Sheldon Morgan and principal of Westbury High Dr Been Robinson also expressed their sadness.

“He was such an energetic teacher especially when it involved sports. “He was part of the rugby coaching team and one of his prodigies, through his hard work was chosen to play for the Golden Lions in Cape Town earlier this year.

“Our deepest sympathies,” said Robinson.

Kela taught social sciences to Grade Eight pupils and was in his second year of teaching.

The 25-year-old was from Eastern Cape and coached rugby at the school.

“We are saddened at the brutal loss of our colleague.

“May his soul rest in peace,” said Morgan.

One of his pupils Shannon Mitchell also expressed her sadness.

“He was a very nice teacher and as his pupils we are very heartbroken that he is no more,” said Mitchell.

Dates and times of a memorial service at the school are yet to be announced.
