The search for Miss Soweto 2015 is on

Auditions to find the new Soweto beauty queen are starting soon.

An anonymous saying on the internet says, “The average woman would rather have beauty than brains, because the average man can see better than he can think.”

If this saying is anything to go by, judges for this year’s Miss Soweto competition will have an easy job.

Unfortunately for them, the competition is more than just about beauty. It’s about beauty and a whole lot of other things.

It’s that time of the year again when White Star Maize Meal is calling for all beautiful and intelligent girls to make the clever choice and enter the Miss Soweto 2015 competition.

The search is on for the next beauty who will take over from reigning queen Lungile Buhale. If you are a girl between the ages of 18-24 years, never had a child and has matric this is your opportunity to shine.

Beauty, brains and the confidence to strut your stuff on the runway are some of the requirements for one to be crowned Miss Soweto.

Outgoing queen, Buhale says being Miss Soweto is not a walk in the park especially when you have your studies to attend to.

“To be Miss Soweto, one must be willing to work hard and be able to initiate things for themselves because no one will be there to hold your hand,” says Buhale.

She’s had a tough time maintaining a balance between studying and fulfilling her duties as Miss Soweto.

Her advice to those with ambitions of taking over the throne is to make sure they find the balance.

She says, “It is important to always make time for everything and find a balance between school and your work as Miss Soweto.”

The first round of auditions takes place at Jabulani Mall on October 25 followed by Protea Glen on October 31. The final round will be held at Maponya Mall on November 7.

It will all end at the Soweto Theatre on December 5 where Miss Soweto 2015 will be crowned. Young designers from Soweto are invited to come to the auditions with their portfolios and register on the database.

Five designers will be selected to dress the top 20 girls who will contest in the finals. Equally enticing as the crown are the prizes that comes with it for the winner.

R10 000 cash from the White Star the main sponsors has been confirmed.

“Other prizes have not been confirmed at the moment as we are still in negotiations with our sponsors,” says Collin Sithole, founding director for Miss Soweto.

He encouraged girls who meet the criteria to come audition for this prestigious contest. He said they should come and audition because there will be scouts who might discover their talent and open doors to their future.

“We encourage parents to allow their children to come for the auditions because contests like these usually open up a lot of opportunities for them,” concludes Sithole.

Interested girls should arrive at the above mentioned venues for auditions at 8:30 am. They should bring their matric certificates, R200 cash for registration and a bikini.
