One busted for cable theft

Kliptown police fight cable theft.

A 32-year-old man is due to appear in court on charges relating to cable theft.

The arrest was made by Kliptown police in Angola flats on Wednesday morning following a case of theft which was opened the previous day.

The cables were alleged to have been stolen from Bridge Road in Kliptown.

Investigations led police to an illegal scrapyard in Angola shacks where the arrest was made.

The arrested man claimed to have bought the cable from three other men for R2500.

The owner of the scrapyard was not on the premises when the arrest was made.

This is a second case of cable theft Kliptown police have dealt with in less than a month.

Last month three men were arrested on Union Road for cable theft.

At the beginning of this month City Power officials uncovered another cable theft syndicate which was operating at a scrapyard in Klipspruit West.
