Wits University students have vowed to have the whole institution shut down in protesting against a proposed fee increase.
Students claim that the fee increase will have detrimental effects on black and underprivileged students.
They had planned to hold a protest on campus today at midday but demonstrations started early morning.
Entrance to campus have been blocked preventing vehicles from entering or leaving the premisses.
The protest has also been taken to social networks with the hashtag #WitsFeesMustFall on twitter, students are voicing their anger and dissatisfaction with regards to fee increase.
