#Numsa anti corruption march underway

Workers march to the legislature to demand decent jobs.

The anti corruption march organised by the National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa(Numsa) is currently underway in downtown Johannesburg.

Through the strike action, the union and its allies are also calling for decent jobs across all sectors.

NEDLAC granted Numsa the green light to go ahead with the strike last month meaning that all workers participating today are protected by law.

“We are expecting thousands of workers, ordinary South Africans, the unemployed, youth, women and members of various religious bodies to swamp the streets, irrespective of their unions’ logos or t-shirt colours to stay away across South Africa, but more specifically to gather in the national march in Johannesburg to the Gauteng Legislature; Chamber of Mines and SA Reserve Bank (SARB) to hand-over Memorandum of Demands, based on a number of specific demands,”reads a statement by Numsa released yesterday.

Numsa leadership have addressed  thousands of workers who are gathered at the Mary Fitzgerald square before marching to the legislature.

Late last month a similar march took place in Pretoria and Cape Town even though NEDLAC did not authorise it.
