Building a drug free society

pupils learn that by using drugs, they can easily contract HIV.

Community Work Programme (CWP) marched from Kliptown to Eldorado Park Extension Five in an effort to raise awareness on the dangers of drugs use.

Primary schools from the area were in attendance at a talk where speakers from Comeback Mission and Sanca spoke to them.

Ruwellen Swartz from CWP said people often contract HIV when using drugs and youth should be educated on this.

“When using drugs, people can get HIV because they find themselves in lolly lounges, sleeping with many people.

“They also share needles to inject themselves with drugs and this too can spread HIV,” Swatrz said.

They targeted primary school pupils so that they are well informed by the time they reach high school.

The ‘Building a drug and HIV free community’ march was to empower and encourage pupils and the community.
