Cosatu join trade unions across the world in commemorating #WDDW

Unions reiterate their call for e-tolls to be scraped.

The International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC) marked October 7 as World Day for Decent Work (WDDW).

This is the day where trade unions across the world organise their members in different events to demand decent jobs and rights as the working class.

The day highlights the importance of trade unions in providing security and protection for workers as well.

According to the ITUC this day is a, “Great opportunity to spread the union message far and wide, to reach out to others to help them join their union and to support global solidarity actions for working people.”

Unions across the world have been celebrating this day since its inception by the ITUC in 2008.

In South Africa the biggest trade union federation Cosatu is joining the celebration.

In commemorating this day Cosatu has planned marches in different parts of the country.

In the Johannesburg CBD, workers are expected to march to the premier’s office to reiterate their call for e-tolls to be scraped.

“Our strike action is designed to raise the plight of our members in relation to the challenges posed by the unavailability of affordable, reliable, safe and accessible public transport, electricity crises, the proposed increases of personal income sector as well as value added tax and the current crises in the public health sector,” reads a statement released by Cosatu early this week.
