Orlando East residents still in the dark

Eskom technicians fear for their lives.

Some parts of Orlando East have been without having electricity since Tuesday last week.

The problem started when Eskom technicians came to install new electricity boxes.

They were allegedly chased away by residents who are opposing the installation of prepaid.

Fearing for their lives, Eskom technicians downed their tools and left the area just after switching  off electricity.

They had switched it off so that they could go about with their work.

Residents took to the streets on Thursday last week protesting against being left in the dark.

Ward Councollor Sechaba Khumalo said on Friday that he was still negotiating with Eskom.

On Tuesday Eskom released a statement saying it has not “received a commitment from the community that the safety of its employees will be guaranteed in order for them to be able to work in the area.”
