‘Flooding has been a problem for the past 15 years’

Residents irked by lack of service delivery for the past 15-years.

Mokgadi Mokgolo, a resident in Doornkop Extension One, had to demolish part of her precast wall to build an exit gate due to flooding at the original entrance.

About five homes are affected by the overflow every time it rains.

This is because the tarred road does not have a storm water drainage channel to control the flow of water.

Mokgolo claims flooding has been a problem for the past 15 years.

“We get told about budget issues and how soon the situation will be corrected but each year is the same, nothing happens.

“It is surprising how the municipality expects us to pay for services (bills) at the end of the month, when they can’t resolve this problem,” said Mokgolo.

According to Johannesburg Roads Agency spokesperson, Bertha Peters-Scheepers, the correct procedure to follow regarding any road or storm water issues is by reporting to 0860 562 874 or hotline@jra.org.za or twitter@MyJra.

Ward 53 councillor Busi Radebe could not be reached for comment.
