Mandela Day every day

Councillor gives to needy man.

Chiawelo Ward 12 councillor Joe Nemaungani donated a wheelchair as part of Making Mandela Day every day.

The recipient, Patric Ndlovu (58) has been disabled since 2006 and said he was diagnosed with spinal cord cancer.

Ndlovu said he is grateful for the donation by the councillor.

“I’ve been struggling to get around and do what I want to do with my old wheelchair, so with this new one I will be able to carry on with my life and enjoy riding it compared to the broken, old one.

Talking about his spinal cord cancer he said: “The sickness just happened randomly while I was driving my work truck.

“I started feeling pain and when I went to the doctor that’s when I was diagnosed.”

Nemaungani said it is his duty to help residents in his ward.

“To me Mandela Day is every day, Mandela Day means going the extra mile in helping another person so they can lead a happy and normal life.

“I will always avail myself to residents who are in dire need of assistance,” Nemaungani.

“I hope that I’m not the last person to receive this kind of assistance from the councillor.

“I wish he can stretch his helping hand to other people in my area because there are a lot of people who need assistance,” said Ndlovu.
