Eskom doing maintenance on power stations

Power supply won't be interrupted during Eskom's work on their power station.

State owned power supply entity, Eskom, conducted maintenance work to its electricity power stations countrywide.

Eskom spokesman Khulu Phasiwe said the maintenance is imperative to ensure constant supply of electricity to customers without interruptions.

Phasiwe said maintenance on all stations is usually done without having to cut off power.

“No load shedding took place in the past five weeks, however, in areas where residents experienced power outage it was due to maintenance on Cahora Bassa Hydroelectric Generating Station in Mozambique.

Eskom buys 1500 megawatts from Cahora Bassa Hydroelectric Generating Station but due to the ongoing maintenance the power supply gets only 650 megawatts.

“Despite the unfortunate power outages in winter, things have really improved because even the electricity demand is lower at this point,” he said.

One of the two power units in Cape Town will be out till December.
