Two JMPD officers behind bars

Two JMPD officers have been arrested in connection with a fatal shooting in Meadowlands.

Two Johannesburg Metro Police Department officers have been arrested following the murder of a 28-year-old man from Meadowlands, Soweto.

The shooting happened on September 11 during a night vigil held for uMkhonto we Sizwe (MK) cadres in the area.

Police spokesperson Captain Nomvula Mbense confirmed that two men aged 24 and 29 were arrested on September 16 in connection with the shooting.

According to Mbense, there was random shooting at the vigil and one of the bullets hit the deceased on the back.

“The victim was declared dead at the scene. Suspects have been detained at Meadowlands Police Station cells,” said Mbense.

The pair appeared at the Protea Magistrates Court today.
