Generating units return to grid

Load shedding risk remains, especially during the evening peak periods.

The return of a number of generating units from maintenance has helped stabilise the country’s power system with no load shedding currently taking place, says Eskom.

“Over the past 38 days, we have had only 2 hours and 20 minutes of load shedding. However, the risk remains, especially during the evening peak periods, as we operate a very constrained and vulnerable power system,” said the power utility on Wednesday.

As the weather begins to warm up, usage of electricity becomes high for most of the day predominantly due to the increased usage of air conditioners, geysers and pool pumps.

Eskom called on all electricity users to continue using electricity sparingly in order to reduce the risk of load shedding.

In addition, businesses and households can make a difference by implementing saving measures in their processes and daily lives. – SAnews.gov.za
