Celebs ride for a good cause

Stoan and friends to cycle for five days in honour of Ruth Mompati.

Musician and actor, Stoan Seate launched the second edition of his Ikgate Motlhala Cycling Campaign in Orlando West on Thursday.

Ikgate Motlhala is a charity campaign by the former Bongo Maffin member aimed at raising money for essential services that will help uplift disadvantaged schools and early childhood development centres.

The initiative runs under his foundation called 4020Phenomenon.

The Thursday launch was a build up to a five day cycle tour to take place at the end of this month.

On his birthday in May, Seate and a group of cyclist paddled from Gauteng to the North West Province in a bid to raise funds.

The initiative is supported by the North West Department of Art, Culture and Traditional Affairs and the National Development Agency.

This time around the campaign is not only about raising funds but it is also in honour of the late struggle stalwart Ruth Segomotsi Mompati. Both Stoan and Mompati come from The North West Province.

A team of 10 cyclists led by TV personality Warren Masemola will paddle from Mahikeng to Vryburg for five days.

“I’m passionate about cycling and when Stoan approached me to join the initiative I jumped in with no hesitation because of the reason we are doing it for, which is to raise funds and resources for underprivileged schools.

“It’s not only about changing lives of the pupils we meet in the schools we visit but it’s also about promoting a healthy lifestyle through cycling,” said Masemola.

Before the launch, cyclists did a 10km ride in Orlando to prepare for the main ride to take place in Mahikeng.

The initiative started when Seate was celebrating his 40th birthday. He wanted to celebrate differently from throwing a party.

“The main thinking behind this initiative was to leave a legacy. I realised that throwing a party for my birthday was not going to make any difference to anyone’s life hence I decided to celebrate by empowering young people,” Said Seate.
