‘I am a customer to Eskom like everyone else’

Councillor speaks about the trauma her family went through during a violent protest in Dobsonville.

Ward 48 Councillor Jacquire Lekgetho said there’s nothing wrong with people protesting when they have issues or want certain things addressed, but should do so peacefully.

Lekgetho said peaceful marches are the way to go and that people can write petitions raising their grievances.

“I condemn the vandalism of property because it only delays the element of service delivery at times when we should be improving,” she said.

She said people should not march to her house to demand answers about electricity because she’s also a customer to Eskom like everyone else.

“I was threatened and told my house would be burned to the ground, my life was at risk and it really traumatised my family.

“The time locals protested about electricity, I also didn’t have power at my home and residents must understand that I don’t work for Eskom.

“I urge people to take a petition to the power supplier should there be a need to do so.”
