Mayor unveils park in Ndofaya

City of Joburg Mayor Mpho Parks Tau unveiled Meadowlands Park to mark National Arbor Week which runs from September 1 to 7 annually.

The Executive Mayor in the City of Joburg, Mpho Parks Tau officially unveiled the Meadowlands Park in Zone Seven yesterday, September 2 to mark National Arbor Week.

The newly developed park features a soccer ground, braai areas, multi-purpose park furniture with embedded indigenous games, sculptures, themed fencing and versatile playground for both adults and children.

The development is part of CoJ’s Greening Soweto programme which aims to reclaim vulnerable spaces that are prone to vandalism, illegal dumping and illegal activities by providing green lung that will act as a catalyst for social cohesion and healthy living in marginalised areas such as Meadowlands.

Tau, who grew up in Meadowlands, spoke to jubilant residents about the significance of the park.

He added that 3 000 trees would be planted in Joburg at the end of National Arbor Week.
