Naledi Shoprite robbed

Police managed to arrest two men aged 31 and 45 in connection to the robbery at Naledi Shoprite.

Yesterday at about 6:30pm, about seven armed men entered Naledi Shoprite in an attempt to rob the store.

It is alleged that after entering the store, the men pointed at the shop tellers with guns demanding money and instructing them to empty their tills.

The men then took an undisclosed amount of money and fled in three vehicles with no registration numbers.

“Police patrolling the Naledi policing area were informed about the incident and upon patrolling, they spotted one of the vehicles which was used as a getaway car which was found at Merafe Hostel.

“After approaching the vehicle, the police managed to arrest two men aged 31 and 45 where they recovered one riffle with ammunition and a firearm with ammunition,” said Mbulaheni Netshivhodza the Moroka cluster communications officer.

He confirmed that other men related to the incident are still at large, and the police are currently investigating a case of business robbery and theft.

“The two men under police custody will appear at the Protea Magistrate’s court soon,” said Netshivhodza.
