Power system currently stable

The power utility said that the likelihood of load shedding during this evening’s peak period (5pm-9pm) remains a possibility should Eskom experience an additional generating unit failure.

The power system is currently stable with Eskom not having implemented load shedding for over a week.

“Eskom’s aim is to meet the country’s electricity needs and maintain its power generating units with minimal or no load shedding,” said Eskom on Tuesday.

The power utility said that the likelihood of load shedding during this evening’s peak period (5pm-9pm) remains a possibility should Eskom experience an additional generating unit failure.

“South Africans endure the inconvenience of living without electricity for many hours, suffer injuries and even die due to unsafe and criminal activities around electricity. Eskom has identified that the biggest contributors to electrical accidents, injuries and deaths are contact with low hanging and fallen power lines, unsafe and illegal connections, vandalism and cable theft,” said the utility.

The week of 17 to 23 August 2015 is the annual Eskom National Electricity Safety Week, aimed at educating the public about using electricity safely and responsibly. SAnews.gov.za
