Call for traffic calming measures

Around 20 people have died on the road for this year.

The community of Extension Two managed to gather almost 200 signatures on a petition requesting for traffic calming measures in Union Road.

According to Dominique Palmer, about 20 people have died on the road by accidents or being bumped, for the year.

Residents gathered on the corner of Union and Witterberg roads with placards urging motorists to reduce their speed yesterday afternoon and are calling on the community to join in making their voices heard.

They are looking at different options to reduce speed, including traffic circles.

“It makes sense to have traffic circles instead of robots because people are chopping robots for scrap.

“We also need to think about load-shedding and when it hits, traffic is affected,” Emlyn Krool a resident said.

They will gather again from 5pm at the same venue.
