A non-profit organisation called Lesego Tau Education Foundation (LTEF) is an organisation which is currently running an educational programme named Junior Perception Agents.
JPA is a programme in which young people are selected by the foundation in schools to serve other youth in the learning environment and the community.
Secretary general Nokuthula Mkhaliphi said only five schools are participating and those are Sebetsa O Thole Moputso, Thulani, George Khoza, Forte and Siyabonga Secondary School.
These are all secondary schools – the programme targets Grade 11 pupils.
Mkhaliphi said a total of 100 pupils are participating in the programme – with at least 20 pupils from each secondary school.
“The role of a JPA on the programme is to; influence the importance of education to other pupils, inform other young people about available opportunities, helping the school with resources and being actively involved in community development,” said Mkhaliphi.
She said JPAs will be trained by the foundation in leadership, communication skills, mental improvement, goal setting, time management and budgeting skills.
“The foundation seeks to forge relationships and get more young people involved in community work and to be part of the change.
Mkhaliphi said: “At the end of the programme, the JPAs will have to select another group of agents who will serve for 12 months whilst they proceed to become senior advisers and perception agents in tertiary.”
