Drug operation saves Eldos children

Nine children have been taken to a place of safety since the operation began.

The Eldorado Park Local Drug Action Committee has been making waves in the area since their first supply reduction operation on July 8.

The operation kicked off in Extension Two where they issued warning letters to alleged drug dealers and house shops who sell cigarettes and hookah flavour to underage children.

Operations were intensified on Tuesday when various departments were roped in.

This comes after five underage girls were removed from a lolly lounge during an operation on Friday evening.

The girls were supposed to have been taken to a place of safety but were soon back in lolly lounges.

Child welfare, schools, police and the department of social development, some of the stakeholders, raided the Westgate Flats in Extension Three to search for the five girls.

While combing the area children were found out of school, playing with toy guns and roaming around aimlessly.

The five girls were found at various locations and are now in a place of safety.

Since the inception of the operation, nine children were taken to a place of safety.

Another girl was found in a lolly lounge yesterday, she is 17-years-old.

Siblings, between the ages of five and 11, were removed from their home during the first week of the operation.

They have been in a place of safety and investigations are underway to determine if their parents should be sent to rehab or parenting programmes.
