Uncle Ensley driven by passion

Ensley Britoe is nominated as best up and coming community developer.

Children knock on his door and call “Uncle Ensley,” soon a mother arrives and asks to speak to him.

Ensley Britoe has been feeding children, without fail since 2012 every Wednesday through the Gail Britoe Foundation.

His door is always open to residents, children ask for a ball to play with, a woman arrives and he gives her a pair of shoes and he arranges a plate of food for a mother to give to her child.

He started with the project on Mandela Day in 2012 and was touched by the smiles on the faces of children.

“My neighbour and I decided to feed 67 children in 2012 but when I saw how grateful and happy they were I wanted to do it every week,” Britoe said.

Still in the corporate world at that time, he would get Wednesday’s off from work in order to feed children from his community.

Britoe was retrenched and saw it as a blessing in disguise.

“This is my passion, I want to see children smile,” Britoe said.

Every child that passes him is reminded that they are loved by him.

Britoe also gives blankets and food parcels sporadically.

He has recently been nominated as the best up and coming community developer.
