Watch: FIBA launches Boys and Girls Club in Protea Glen

Members of Boys and Girls Club meet top basketball players.

Yesterday (July 30), the International Basketball Federation, commonly known as FIBA and Basketball Without Borders launched Boys and Girls Club in Protea Glen.

The Boys and Girls Club which is associated with NBA was formed in the US before coming to South Africa.

It was first launched at Pimville in 2011 and now has another branch in Protea Glen.

The organisation does not only focus on sport but allows children to do other activities such as reading and homework after school.

“Boys and Girls Club is where school aged young people come after school and do programmes in education, IT, career readiness as well as character leadership,” said Laura Parker, director of Boys and Girls Club of South Africa.

Members of Boys and Girls Club got an opportunity to interact and be in the court with some of the NBA players.

They also performed gumboots dance for the players.

The launch was held at Protea Glen Sport Centre in Extension 14.
