Crackdown on syndicate

Police arrest one man linked to money theft in Jabulani.

Jabulani Police Station communications spokesperson, Justice Mabasa, has provided the following information regarding crime in the Jabulani policing area.

An arrest has been made that is suspected to be linked to a money laundering syndicate in Jablulani last week.

“People who make use of the Shoprite money market should be aware and on the lookout because we have made an arrest of someone who pretends to be part of the queue but is there to steal money.

“The perpetrators target the end of the queue, the person borrows your phone pretending to use it to load airtime but they are actually gaining access to a pin and other sensitive information regarding your money transfer.

“When you get to the tills with the intention to withdraw your money, you will find that the money has been withdrawn already.

“So the person who stole the information on your phone is suspected to send that information to someone who is at the front of the queue and that person is the one who withdraws your money.

“This has been reported at Jabulani Mall and Protea Glen Mall Shoprite money market till points and only one person has been arrested thus far.

“People who use the money market are urged to be vigilant and if anyone has any information that can help the police arrest other people related to this syndicate, please report information to Jabulani Police Station or your nearest police station, “ said Mabasa.
