32-year old taxi owner shot dead in Chiawelo

Taxi violence on the increase.

Gauteng police spokesperson, Major Mack Mngomezulu has confirmed that the taxi owner who was shot and killed in Soweto, is in fact from Chiawelo.

The 32-year-old taxi owner was shot in front of his home at approximately 6:20am on his way to a meeting.

Mngomezulu said witnesses claim to have seen a white Siyaya fleeing the scene.

“Taxi violence has sprung out of control with the one in Tembisa taking priority.

The shooting incident at Sangweni rank in Tembisa on Johannesburg’s East Rand claimed the life of a woman and left two seriously injured.

“The gunfire went out the moment when passengers were boarding a taxi,” said Mngomezulu.

He said taxi associations need to swiftly resolve crises or disputes among themselves before issues spark violently out of control.

“I urge all associations to be service providers and assurers of safety and security to their customers.

“We’ll investigate every case till arrests are made,” said Mngomezulu.
