MEC for education launches “paperless classrooms” in Protea Glen.

The Gauteng Department of Education launched digital classrooms in Protea Glen Secondary School this morning.

Gauteng MEC for Education Panyaza Lesufi, launched the matric interactive boards programme at the school.

The programme, commonly known as “the paperless classroom” entails the usage of interactive boards, mobile devices such as tablets, laptops with complete internet connectivity to conduct teaching and learning.

All Grade 12 classrooms in 374 schools will be equipped with smartboards.

The department has also purchased over 17 000 tablets for Grade 12 pupils and 1800 3D LED interactive boards that are currently being installed in matric classrooms at the targeted schools.

This is the second phase of the ICT roll-out to create paperless classrooms in Gauteng schools.

MEC for Cooperative and Traditional Affairs and Human Settlements, Jacob Mamabolo is also launching “paperless classrooms” at Emadwaleni Secondary School in Orlando West.

The “paperless classrooms” was first launched in East Rand earlier this year before coming to Soweto.
