Pupil dies while train surfing

Emergency Management Services (EMS) spokesperson Robert Mulaudzi urged young people to refrain from train surfing.

A 19-year-old pupil from Orlando High School was killed while ‘train surfing’ at the Chiawelo Station in Soweto, this morning.

Emergency Management Services (EMS) spokesperson Robert Mulaudzi said, “The teenager slipped and fell under the train’s wheels.

“He was running along the station platform, jumping onto the train and hanging off the side, then jumping back onto the platform.”

Mulaudzi said that the pupil sustained multiple injuries and died on the scene.

“His family have been informed and the school principal is on the scene.

“The case has been handed over to the Orlando police,” he said.

Mulaudzi said, “We urge young people to refrain from train surfing, because it is unnecessary.”
