Community supports supply reduction operation
LDAC has received many requests from the community to take part in their operation.
A supply reduction operation by the Eldorado Park Local Drug Action Committee gained support by the community where they gave their commitment.
A meeting was called in less than 24 hours after LDAC noticed the increase in requests from community to take part in the operation.
Residents were briefed on the success and future of the operation and were given an opportunity to give their input.
“This is the beginning of a new era for Eldorado Park,” chairperson Cheryl Pillay said.
The challenge faced by LDAC is that the community is divided according to Allistair Fredericks who is leading the operation.
Suggestions residents offered were a skills centre for those returning from rehabilitation and a youth movement where they actively get involved in similar operations.
“We don’t see many youth in these kind of meetings, let’s mobilise a group of youth and get them to commit to this,” a resident said.
Residents also questioned the effectiveness of CrimeLine.
“People are despondent and don’t want to report crime because we don’t see action,” another resident said.
Dereleen James explained that CrimeLine is not the police.
“All information that is sent to CrimeLine is sent to the police where they act on the tipoffs,”James said.
When reporting a crime ensure to provide as many details as possible.
A register for each extension had to be completed by those who attended the meeting.

Extension One – two people
Extension Two – 25 people
Extension Three – 10 people
Extension Four – 10 people
Extension Six – seven people
Extension Seven – five people
Extension Eight – one person
Extension Nine – 14 people
Klipspruit West, Kliptown and Eldorado Proper – eight people
