Association organises Mandela Day gala

Riverlea Scholar Transport Association honours members.

The Riverlea Scholar Transport Association (RSTA) celebrated Mandela Day by honouring its members through a gala event.

Community members were also invited and a free dinner was provided by the association. Certificates were then handed out to honour three of its long serving members.

Two have passed on, Pastor Wilson Job and Bruce Butler.

The last dignitary was Sandra Peters, the first vice chairperson who now has other obligations but is still a member of the association.

These members were presented with certificates as a token of appreciation. The member’s certificates that passed on were accepted by their families.

The Riverlea Scholar Transport Association (RSTA) was established and registered in 2008.

The association transports in the areas of  Riverlea, Newclare , Coronationville, Bosmont, Claremont, Maraisburg,  Florida, Langlaagte , Mayfair, Brixton, Roosevelt Park,  Linden and Northcliff.

It is the only legal association in scholar transporting in these areas.

They have a membership of more than 50 people from all these various areas.

The association has taken part in various community outreach programmes to inform and direct operators concerning the regulations and legalities with regard to the industry of scholar transport.

On July 8, they had a blanket drive at the Jordan Old Age Home where they distributed 60 blankets to the residents.

Paul Doyle is the chairman and has been part of the association since its inception.

“Our intention is to try and assist the older people and the organisation further in the future and help with their other needs,” said Doyle.

Representative from the regional association Simon Hlophe and Kofifi FM host Lionel Miles were also present.

“I thank the Lord for the way he has helped us through difficult times.

“To be part of this growth is amazing with the help of our members, more growth is expected,” said Doyle.
