Toddlers critical after eating macaroni and mince

Group of toddlers were rushed to hospital for alleged food poisoning.

Toddlers were on Tuesday left in a critical condition and one in a very serious condition after they allegedly suffered a case of food poisoning at Busisiwe Day Care centre in Diepkloof Zone One.

The crèche which caters for 70 children experienced panic after the children began to vomit two hours after having their third meal of the day.

“I was driving from work to the crèche to fetch my son, when I received a call stating he was in hospital,” said a shocked Nosipho Ngema.

“My son was discharged the same day.

“I really do not understand what happened.”

Thabo Msingane, a father whose daughter was admitted at Chris Hani Baragwanath, said that doctors told him that they do not know what is happening.

“She is still weak, and when they give her drip she vomits it too.

“Tests will be done in order to know if it’s the food she ate or something else,” he said.

Crèche principal Busisiwe Mnisi said, “We usually feed the children three meals.

“We gave them macaroni and mince for the day, which is usually on our second menu.

“One of the teachers phoned me to tell me that the children are vomiting.

“Due to their condition, I gave them warm water with salt and sugar.

“They were then taken to hospital,” said Mnisi.
