Challenges VS Development in Ward 44

Youth unemployment a concern – community projects should also benefit them

A public meeting was held by Ward 44 councillor George Lekgetho at Kgatelopele Secondary School in Bramfischer.

Challenges outlined in the meeting facing the ward include:

• Joburg Water – prepaid meters will be installed at households that remained after the first phase of the project was completed.

• Shortage of water outlets needs to be address because there aren’t enough in the area.

• The councillor regularly receives petitions from residents pleading that speed humps be set up due to accidents in some inland roads.

• Youth unemployment a concern – community projects should also benefit them.

• Housing disputes – some houses have been demolished and others left homeless because of the illegal selling of homes.

• Pipes burst during projects causing water shortage in-house – contractors should account by at least reporting to Joburg Water.

Lekgetho said to residents that despite the challenges there are developments on the pipeline.

“Joburg Water and Johannesburg Roads Agency will be carrying out projects.

“This will see water prepaid meters installed, upgrade of sewer networks and upgrade of some gravel roads,” he said.

Sindisiwe Ngcobo of Joburg Water said another contractor has been appointed to finish the remaining phases of the metering project.

She urged residents to report bursts pipes and to save water.
