Keeping drug dealers on their toes

LDAC and residents vow to end the selling of illegal substances within six weeks.

The Local Drug Action Committee (LDAC), mobilised residents in Extension Two and Four.

Commencing on Tuesday evening residents, LDAC, CPF and police held a meeting where all entities gave their commitment to actively eliminate drug dealers from their area.

Deputy chairperson of LDAC Allistair Fredericks addressed residents calling on them to work together.

“We are destroying our communities, we’ve really had enough and now is the time for action.

“All we’re asking for is for the community to work with us,” Fredericks said.

He sent a stern warning to drug dealers, telling them he isn’t afraid of them.

Liesl Valloo from LDAC told residents they are the majority and shouldn’t allow the minority of drug dealers to hold the community at ransom.

Wednesday evening residents and LDAC went to house shops selling cigarettes to underage children and alleged drug dealers and issued them with letters.

The letter states “Kindly note that we hereby request that you immediately comply and be aware that we will be observing your business practice…

“Failure to comply with the above will result in legal action being instituted against you and your business.”

The operation continued on Sunday afternoon into the evening.

Recipients had to sign that they received the letter.

Hookah pipes were also confiscated from underage smokers.

LDAC and residents vow to end the selling of illegal substances within six weeks.

“Why are we allowing a few people to manipulate our community? “Why can’t we stand in front of their door everyday and say today we won’t allow this in our community? “We have the power to do so, be in their faces and eventually they won’t sell,” Pillay said.
