Beauty pageant uplifts women’s confidence

Centurion gives back to the community through pageant.

Centurion Systems had its second annual beauty pageant on June 27 at Protea Glen Mall.

The pageant, which is a way of giving back to the community, is also a platform to give women confidence by showing off their beauty.

“We are giving back to the community by greening Soweto but the most important part of the pageant is that it’s an uplifting platform to bring something out of the girls and boosts their confidence,” said Sharon Tunner, event coordinator at Centurion System.

She said that beauty pageants are not just about being pretty but about beauty with brains because everyone wishes for beauty with purpose.

The pageant had categories from toddlers to Mrs category, where married women were also on the ramp. Zanele Phakathi (16) from Dobsinville, who was the runner-up on last year’s pageant, was crowed Miss Centurion Systems 2015.

“ I’m overwhelmed, I cannot believe it because although I’m used to entering pageants, this feels so great because last year I came first princess and now that I’m the queen and I want to hold on to this title,” said Phakathi.

Keneilwe Gumede (17) who came second and was crowned the first princess was very happy and aims at being the queen next year. “I’m very excited because I never thought I would win due to tough competition but me being the first princess means I’m ready for the queen next year,” said Gumede.

The pageant had participants from all over Johannesburg and everyone was a winner because even those who were not crowed received prizes.
