Community Safety budget focuses on improving policing in the province
Policing in the Gauteng province receive a shot in the arm.
Department of Community Safety MEC Sizakele Nkosi-Malobane has pointed out that the bulk of the budget allocated for her division will be spent on improving policing in Gauteng.
A R622 million budget has been allocated for the division this financial year.
From this budget, only R190 million will be used to better policing in the province.
MEC Nkosi-Malobane outlined that;
– 1200 closed dockets will be audited and linked to the DNA Act.
– The department will monitor police budget.
– 200 patrollers will receive training in the current financial year to improve traffic policing.
– 1170 patrollers aged between 18 and 35 will be trained as Traffic Wardens and Peace Officers as part of the Tshepo 500 000 programme.
– Schools will be helped in promoting safety.
– 60 Forensic Social Workers representing civil society and government to be trained to address violence against women and children.
